The spikes are more to keep the Samurai If Your Path Demands You Walk Through Hell Walk As If You Own The Place Shirt or other large predator/aggressor from grabbing the dog on the neck or throat. The vest itself is supposed to be kevlar, tested against attack dogs to not puncture from predators and larger aggressive dogs. Been on their website and it was originally created to protect their own small dogs but now to help others. I hope to get one for my tiny dog, we live the threat is real.
